Birse Rail and Network Rail’s combined Western Reactive Earthworks Team received the coveted Outstanding Teamwork Award at this year’s National Rail Awards. The prestigious award was presented at an awards ceremony in London last week.
The National Rail Awards Judges commented:
“The team set new standards while working under extreme situations…benefiting both the industry and, more importantly, the communities they serve.”
The Judges were also impressed with the “passion and commitment displayed by both organisations to exceed all expectations”.
This award follows the team’s recent success at the Network Rail Partnership Awards where the Stoke Gifford Embankment Stabilisation Project received the Environmental Sustainability Award.
Birse Rail also received recognition in the Innovation of the Year category with a Highly Commended award for East Midlands Parkway’s Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) modular platform system. The utilisation of this innovative system resulted in the installation of four platforms totalling 3,000m2 in just ten weeks.
The Judges commented on the “impressive teamwork” demonstrated on the project and noted the wider potential for GRP applications elsewhere in the industry.
Birse Rail’s Managing Director, Paul Copeland said: “The National Rail Awards is the rail industry’s biggest and most respected awards scheme. To receive recognition in two categories at these prestigious awards is a tremendous achievement and is further confirmation of Birse Rail’s standing in the industry.”
