History

  • Birse Rail started trading as a division of Birse Construction Limited in 1996 
  • Awarded the Railtrack Midlands Structures Extended Arm Contract in 1997 (three year framework)
  • Awarded the Railtrack Midlands Structures Framework Contract in 2000 (five year framework)
  • Incorporated into a Private Limited Company in November 2001
  • Awarded Network Rail London North West Territory Civils Framework Agreement in 2005 (five year framework which has subsequently been extended for a further two years)
  • Birse Group was acquired by Balfour Beatty in August 2006 (with Birse Rail operating under Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering)
  • Merged with sister company Dean & Dyball Rail in January 2009
  • Became part of the Balfour Beatty Rail business in April 2010
