Framework for the provision of emergency and reactive earthworks across Network Rail’s Western Territory.
The contract includes the delivery of:
- Time critical emergency works to re-open the railway following landslides, floods and rock falls; and
- Reactive schemes to assist in the removal of Temporary Speed Restrictions (TSRs) and Emergency Reduction of Speeds (EROSs) following the identification of potential earthworks failures.
Typically the team delivers around 20-30 emergency or reactive schemes a year. The majority of these works are carried out in challenging conditions and under extreme pressure to re-open the line or remove the TSR/EROS as quickly as possible to ensure minimum disruption to the travelling public.
The geographical scope of the Framework covers the whole of Network Rail’s Western Territory which comprises Wales and the Marches, the West Country and Thames Valley. Consequently many of the sites are situated in isolated locations where access is limited and environmental impact is a critical consideration.
The team was recently awarded the ’Outstanding Teamwork Award’ at the National Rail Awards 2009 and the ’Environmental Sustainability’ award at the Network Rail Partnership Awards 2009.
